We’ve officially launched the fourth annual Freshtime Fun Club at Carlton Road Academy.
On Tuesday 13th June 2017, our Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Mel Miles delivered a salad tasting session for Year 6 pupils in the school hall.
The group of 60 children were encouraged to try a range of the prepared salads we produce for our customers, including potato salad, couscous, chicken and bacon pasta, and salmon salad.
We provided them all with a worksheet so they could rate each one out of 10 based on the following criteria: appearance, smell, taste, texture and nutritional value.
Although we’ve now worked with a handful of schools in Boston, naturally each one is slightly different – as are the pupils – so there is no way of predicting how well they’ll respond.
It’s safe to say though that, as is usually the case, the children loved it! The hall was buzzing with enthusiasm as they all got stuck in to sample each product.
One young girl claimed not to like salad but, with marks from seven to nine for almost all the criteria, her score sheet definitely told a different story!
Another boy said at the end of the session that he would now actively look out for our salads in the shops, which can only be a good thing. This is after all what the Freshtime Fun Club is all about: helping the younger generation to develop positive relationships with food and attitudes towards healthy eating.
Once we’d given the pupils a chance to sample the fruits of our labour, we then challenged them to work in groups to create their very own innovative, tasty and healthy salad.
We’ll be back to visit Year 6 on Friday 30th June to judge their ideas – complete with marketing campaigns Dragons’ Den-style!
In the meantime, we’re looking forward to returning to Carlton Road Academy on Tuesday 20th June and Monday 26th June to deliver more sessions to years 4 and 5.
